FUSION:AIR → OPEN CALL

→ Qolony is looking for four Romanian artists to collaborate with scientists for the 3rd edition of FUSION:AIR

Qolony is announcing an open call for Fusion:AIR 2022 - Artistic Residencies in Research Institutes. We are seeking 4 Romanian artists who can enrich their artistic practice through engaging with scientific endeavors.

The application period for the call runs from March 1 to March 18, 2022, and interested artists can apply by referring to the Applicant Guide and completing the Fusion:AIR 2022 Application Form. The chosen artists will collaborate with researchers from four institutes in Romania, working on artistic projects to be showcased in an exhibition scheduled for September 2022.

Now in its 3rd edition, Fusion:AIR stands as the pioneering collaborative residency project in Romania, uniting artists with a profound interest in scientific concepts and processes, exploring their impact on society and technological innovation. In this edition themed “Unexpected (RE)solutions: How the process drives the outcome,” the project aims to illustrate the creative processes that underlie both artistic and scientific endeavors. The focus is on understanding how iteration, methodological determinism, or serendipity, as pivotal elements in these two realms, lead to a diverse range of solutions and unforeseen outcomes.

Artists participating in Fusion:AIR 2022 will have the opportunity to express themselves through various mediums, including Science Art, Visual Art, New Media, Cross Art Form, Bio Art, and Hybrid Art.

Floriama Cândea, artist and curator of the project, states, The Fusion:AIR residency provides an ideal environment to witness the evolution of ideas, the development and refinement of research methods, and their profound impact on conceptual and technical solutions in both arts and sciences. Amidst the entrenched disciplinary divides in academic and societal spheres, our chosen theme for this edition introduces an innovative approach, emphasizing the process as a unifying bridge between science, art, and the public. By observing how transdisciplinary approaches unfold, we aim to bridge the gap between distinct realms of knowledge.
