THE SOMATIST, THE ENTROPIST AND THE SKEPTIC → ART CLINICAL TEST

→ a project that blends art with science, is launching an open call for entries to “Art Clinical Tests.

“The Somatist, The Entropist & The Skeptic” - a project fusing art with science, announces an open call for participation in “Art Clinical Tests.” This initiative, a research and artistic production project, involves the public in the creation of a distinctive art installation, providing an opportunity to decipher our responses when interacting with technology.

The project, led by artists Floriama Candea, Sabina Suru, and Cătălin Crețu, in collaboration with programmer Cristian Balaș and Dr. Victor Diculescu (researcher at the National Institute of Materials Physics), delves into how individuals react to emerging technologies, exploring not only the physical but also the psychological and relational aspects, probing the correlation between well-being and technology.

With the objective of fostering awareness regarding our responsibility in the human-technology relationship, the project investigates the potential of technologies to function as imperceptible guides shaping our behaviors, habits, and emotional and physical states. Concurrently, “The Somatist, The Entropist & The Skeptic” sparks a conversation about people’s capacity to influence new technologies, with art acting as a mediator, representing their needs, interactions, and ideas.

From June 9 to 15, the Qolony Association will host Art Clinical Tests* at Atelierele Malmaison in Bucharest (137C Plevnei Avenue, 2nd floor). During this event, the public can engage with the artistic and technical team, as well as the technologies used for the final artistic installation.

Throughout these sessions, the project’s creative and research team will test both the theoretical foundations and the potential level of public involvement. Participants will actively contribute to the creation of unique art objects that represent their states and reactions.

The event unfolds in two creative workshop spaces:

ARTIFICIAL INTIMACY LAB: Sabina Suru invites participants to explore the nature of the relationship that can evolve in human interactions with artificial intelligence. The session provides a space for participants, alone with a machine learning algorithm connected to a webcam, to control and define this interaction, examining the nuances of human-machine intimacy.

SYNTHETIC REACTIONS LAB: Floriama Candea encourages the public to contribute physiological data. Over 10 minutes, participants engage with objects designed to monitor real-time physiological parameters (heart rate, skin conductivity, and brain electrical activity). The transcriptions of these data will be transferred to objects that interpret them visually, sonorously, or kinetically, forming part of the final installation. Utilizing data collected by computer or sensors, Cătălin Crețu feeds an algorithm, transforming the sonorous expression of digital fingerprints, where technology and the human body’s physiology manifest in the real world.

The final installation of the project will be presented in September at the Simultan Festival in Timișoara and in Bucharest at Rezidența Scena9 (November - December).
